Moses prayed to God as his first option when there was trouble. He prayed immediately, sometimes just falling down before the Lord. He did not wait to see what he could do about the problem himself. He prayed sooner rather than later. “When Moses heard this, he fell face down.” Numbers 16:4
Moses often interceded for the Israelites when they had done wrong, asking God to have mercy on them. “Then Moses and Aaron fell face down in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there.”
Moses protected God’s reputation in the world. When the Israelites were rebellious, Moses reminded God that others were watching the progress of the Israelites, whom God was leading. “If you put these people to death all at one time, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath so he slaughtered them in the desert.’”
Moses prayed immediately, he did not delay as I sometimes do. What a difference it makes in my life when I go to God first, rather than as a last resort.
Moses knew God. He sang this song of praise to God, “I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Deuteronomy 32:3-4
