Hiding from Love by Dr. John Townsend
The subtitle “How to Change the Withdrawal Patterns That Isolate and Imprison You” is a good indicator of what you will find in the book. It details ways in which we protect ourselves from injuries to our deepest self and the costs of our defensive behaviors to our relationships.
Townsend provides hope for spiritual growth in a very practical way. I can learn to love free from hidden agendas, accepting my imperfections as well as imperfections in others.
The Confident Woman by Anabel Gillham
“Knowing Who You Are in Christ” is the subtitle and for me was the essence of this book. By knowing who I am in Christ, I can stop trying to fill my heart with other things and relieve others from expecting them to fill God’s place in my life.
Anabel makes a long scriptural list of the identity of all who accept Christ as their Savior. It’s not about how we feel about ourselves, but about what God says about us: forgiven, heir, child of His, friend, dwelling-place, a new creation…
She refers us to the Bible to counteract what Satan would have us believe about ourselves.
