The Law

red admiralSpeed limits are for our safety. When we do not pay attention to the speed limit, we risk a steep fine or serious injury.  I do not like it when I cannot see a sign and have to guess.

We do not have to guess what God expects of us, or the consequences for not following His expectations.

God gave His law in the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20)

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me
  2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
  5. Honor your father and your mother
  6. You shall not murder
  7. You shall not commit adultery
  8. You shall not steal
  9. You shall not lie
  10. You shall not covet

Jesus summed up the Ten Commandments with these:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”  And “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  (Matthew 22:37-39)

God calls breaking His law sin. He is clear about the serious consequences of sin. The greatest result of sin is separation from God, both in this life and eternally. Eternal separation from God is hell, which is described in scripture as a place of everlasting misery and torment.  (Isaiah 59:2, Matthew 13:42 and 25:46, Mark 9:43, 2 Thessalonians 1:9, Jude 1:7, Revelation 21:8)

Jesus is the only One who followed God’s law perfectly. He is the only One worthy to cover our sin with His sacrifice. Jesus is our only hope of overcoming the consequences of sin.

Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Looking for something short and to the point to explain the gospel message, I found scripture passages that tell the story of Jesus as I understand it, and made a small accordion tract. It’s not all there is to sharing the gospel, but it is a start.

The pamphlet is printable back to back, two to a page, easy to cut apart and small enough to carry in your purse or pocket. Rely on the Holy Spirit to know when and where to share it. He will show you.

I want to live as the Apostle Paul , “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes….  Romans 1:16
